BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University softball team returns home to wrap up its tournament schedule with the Parents’ Weekend Tournament. The Owls will play Ball State and Pittsburgh on Thursday, #22 Michigan on Saturday, and then conclude the weekend against LIU Brooklyn on Sunday. FAU will then open Conference USA play on Monday and Tuesday against UTEP, before hosting Rutgers for a single game on Wednesday.
Last Week: The Owls went 2-3 over the weekend at the LSU Tiger Invitational. FAU outlasted Purdue 2-1 in 10 innings in its first game on Friday night, then lost to Illinois State 4-3 in nine inning in the nightcap. On Saturday, the Owls defeated #22 McNeese State 4-2, before falling to the host Tigers 6-1. On Sunday, FAU faced off against LSU, and came up short 5-1. Senior Tatum Buckley got both victories in the circle for the Owls and was named C-USA Pitcher of the Week.
History: The Redbirds and Owls had met twice prior to last season, when Ball State broke the 1-1 series tie with a 9-4 win in Boca Raton. FAU holds a 7-2 lead in the all-time series with Pittsburgh, although the Panthers won last year’s match up 3-0. Michigan has won 14 of the 16 meetings with FAU, but this will be the first time in over four years that the two teams have played. The Owls have a narrow 9-8 edge in the series with LIU Brooklyn. UTEP won last season’s series finale 6-4 over FAU. It was the first time that the Miners had ever beated the Owls, with FAU taking the first five confrontations. Rutgers trails 12-5 in the series against FAU.
