BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University softball team will make its first trip outside of Florida this season, going to Baton Rouge for the LSU Tiger Invitational this weekend. FAU will play Illinois State, No. 23 McNeese State, and Purdue in addition to two games against the host Tigers, who are ranked No. 10.
Last Week: The Owls (9-7) won three of their five games at the Strike Out Cancer Tournament last weekend. FAU lost to Texas State in its first game on Friday night, then beat Columbia 9-6 in the nightcap. On Saturday, the Owls swept both contests, defeating Dartmouth 8-0 in five innings, before holding off, UIC 1-0. On Sunday, FAU played another 1-0 tilt, but came out of the wrong end of the score that time, losing to Tulsa.
History: After never having met before, Illinois State and FAU faced off three times last season, with the Owls taking two of the three. Friday's encounter with McNeese will be the first in program history. FAU holds a 4-3 lead in the all-time series with Purdue. LSU has emerged victorious in four of the five all-time meetings with the Owls.
