The Florida Atlantic University softball team will return to the field this weekend to host the FAU Classic this weekend. The tournament will feature Ball State, Harvard, Jacksonville, Eastern Michigan and Michigan State. It will be the Owls' fourth tournament of the season and the third in a row that they have hosted.
This weekend will also kick off a flurry of activity for the team, as they will play 15 games in 12 days, which includes the Sun Belt opening series against ULM as well as the FAU Invitational (March 7-10).
The Owls have developed depth at the plate, with three players (Stephanie Call, Christina Martinez and Jordan Stovall) all hitting over .300, with Alexa Ballardnot far off at .297 so far this season. Stovall leads the team with a .333 batting average and a .500 slugging percentage.
In the circle, sophomore Samantha Messerleads the team with a 2-0 record and a 1.84 ERA, including a victory over nationally ranked USF on the opening weekend of the season.
Action in the tournament begins at 9 a.m. on Friday with a game between Harvard and Jacksonville. Live stats for all the games can be foundhere.
