BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University softball team will return to the field this weekend to host the FAU Invitational. The tournament will feature Kent State, Kentucky, Pittsburgh, Michigan and Penn State. It will be the Owls' third weekend in a row hosting a tournament to begin the season. Both Kentucky (no. 5) and Michigan (no. 7) are both ranked in the latest NFCA Poll.
FAU sits at 5-5 on the season, having lost three of its five games last week, but being competitive for most of every contest. Whitley Herb has started her senior season off with a bang, hitting a team best .486 through the first two weeks of the season. Sophomore Christina Martinez is the only other player hitting over .300, at .323.
In the circle, freshman Amanda Wilson leads the team with a 2-0 record and a 0.42 ERA, including a complete game shutout of fellow Conference USA member Tulsa on the opening weekend.
Action in the tournament begins at 9 a.m. on Friday with a game between Pittsburgh and Kent State. Live stats of all tournament game will be available on the tournament central pagehere.
