Softball Stays Alive Behind Morin's Two-Hitter

LINCOLN, NE - Florida Atlantic University defeated Lehigh University, 3-0, in an elimination game Thursday in NCAA Regional action in Lincoln, NE. Amanda Morin made a bid for her first career no-hitter before allowing two hits in the seventh. The win improves FAU to 55-17 on the year and advances the Owls to a Friday night match-up with either California or Mississippi State.

FAU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third. Jessica Sachs led off with a bunt single and advanced to second on a sacrifice by Callie Piper. With two outs, Jessica Braggins lined a single off the leg of pitcher Heather Hamasaki to drive in Sachs with the first run.

FAU added two more runs in the seventh. Sachs had a one-out double to drive in Ginny Matthews to make it 2-0. Callie Piper followed with an RBI-groundout to put FAU on top 3-0.

In the bottom of the seventh, Morin was seeking the no-hitter. She retired the first batter before giving up a double. A walk and a single later loaded the bases with one. Morin then struck out Kelly Kliewer for the second out and retired Mendy Martin on a foul pop-up to end the game.

Morin struck out eight and walked two. She improved to 20-7 on the year and 3-0 in her career in regional play.

Florida Atlantic will next face the loser of Friday's California-Mississippi State.
