TROY, AL -- Florida Atlantic University's quest for a seventh consecutive Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament championship got off to a fast start on Thursday. Amanda Morin threw a one-hitter and Jenn Piazza blasted a three-run homer to lead the Lady Owls past Jacksonville State University, 8-0, in opening round action from Troy, AL. The win improves FAU to 38-25 on the year.

The game was scoreless into the third inning before Piazza hit her sixth home run of the year with two outs to give FAU a 3-0 lead. Pam Mazzarella, who went 3-for-4, added an RBI single in the fifth to make it 4-0.

The Lady Owls ended the game with four runs in the sixth. Ebony Gray, Michelle Shirah, Jessica Sachs, and Mazzarella all drove in runs in the frame to give FAU the 8-0 win.

Morin (19-11) allowed just one base runner in her six innings of work. She took a perfect game into the fifth before Allie Simons singled with two outs. The A-Sun Freshman-of-the-Year struck out seven in winning her 11th consecutive game and 19th overall.

Florida Atlantic next faces Stetson University Thursday evening. Stetson was defeated by Central Florida, 8-5, earlier in the day. Troy State and Mercer are the other two teams in the six-team double-elimination championship. The tournament concludes Saturday with the winner receiving the A-Sun's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
