BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University softball team defeated FIU 3-1 on Friday night. Taylor Fawbush threw a complete game four-hitter in the win.
Each team had just one hit through three innings when Stephanie Call hit a solo homerun to left field in the top of the fourth to put FAU (26-27, 9-12 Sun Belt) ahead 1-0. The Panthers (27-25, 10-12) answered with a solo homerun to left field of their own in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game 1-1.
The score remained tied until the top of the seventh when Jordan Stovall drew a walk to lead off the inning, followed by an Alexa Ballard double that put runners on second and third with no outs. Laura Mann's groundout drove in Stovall to put the Owls up 2-1. Ballard then scored on a squeeze bunt by Shelby Knox to add an insurance run.
Fawbush gave up back-to-back base hits in the bottom of the seventh, but then got the next three batters to fly out to end the game. It was Fawbush's 13th win of the season.
