Boca Raton, Fla (April 30, 2017) - Florida Atlantic University's softball team rallied from a 5-0 deficit to defeat UTSA 6-5 on Sunday, completing the series sweep. Owls are now 33-18 overall and 13-8 in Conference USA play.
Head Coach Joan Joyce
“Today’s game was a great comeback for us from being down 5-0 and to rally like that to end the game was awesome. It was a good win for the seniors playing in their last home game. I hope this comeback sparks us for the remainder of the season and heading into the conference tournament.”
- Tatum Buckley was 2-for-3 and had two RBIs
- Emily Lochten scored two runs and went 1-for-3 on the day including a two-run homerun.
- Amanda Wilson pitched 6.1 innings allowing five runs on five hits and Tatum Buckley relieved Wilson in the top of the seventh to record the final two outs.
The Owls struggled for most of the game, committing five defensive errors, allowing the Roadrunners to take a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth. FAU scored its first run in the bottom of the fifth when Lochten hit a two run homer to right center. The Owls scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth on a Buckley double and Alex Miller groundout to trim UTSA’s lead to 5-4 heading into the seventh inning. FAU held the Roadrunners scoreless in the top of the seventh. A Lochten walk, Madisyn Palmer base hit and a Delaney Rickey fielder’s choice loaded the bases for Buckley. Buckley’s fly ball was mishandled by the Roadrunner right fielder allowing Palmer and Lochten to score and giving the Owls the win.
