BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University banged out a season-high 18 hits in defeating visiting Lynn University, 11-0, Thursday night in Boca Raton, FL. Candice Freel went 3-for-4 and threw a complete-game shutout as FAU, ranked no. 10 in the nation, improved to 55-8 on the year. Lynn fell to 31-22.

FAU broke a scoreless tie in the second with three runs. With one out, Pam Mazzarella and Callie Piper each singled to right. Candice Freel followed with a double to left center that drove in Mazzarella for FAU's first run. Piper and Freel would also score on the play after a throwing error by the shortstop.

The Lady Owls broke the game open in the third with four more runs. Ninya Ybarra had a run-scoring single while Mazzarella added a two-run double to give FAU a 6-0 lead. Freel capped off the scoring with an RBI-single to make it 7-0.

In the fourth, FAU added two more runs on three hits with Jessica Fernandez delivering a run-scoring double in the process. A pair of runs in the sixth made it 11-0 FAU.

Freel improved to 24-4 on the year, scattering three hits while striking out four. Freel and Mazzarella each had two RBIs while 11 different Lady Owls had hits. Callie Piper went 3-for-4 while Nikki Myers, Mazzarella, and Jennifer Piazza had two hits each.

Florida Atlantic next hosts Florida International May 1 at 7:00pm.
