BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University softball team lost both games of its doubleheader against the University of Louisiana, 1-0 and 8-4 on Saturday.
The first game was a pitchers' duel between Taylor Fawbush and UL's Jordan Wallace. The only run of the game came on a Sarah Draheim solo homerun to left center. Fawbush allowed only three hits and had four strikeouts in the loss.
Both teams' offenses were more prevalent in the second game. Lindsey Shell drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the first. Two batters later, Stephanie Call was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. Jordan Stovall came to the plate with two outs and smacked a double to right center that allowed both Shell and Call to score and put FAU (25-27, 8-12 Sun Belt) ahead 2-0.
The Ragin' Cajuns (33-11, 12-4) scored a run in both the second and would have taken the lead, but Lindsey Shell reached over the left field fence to rob UL of a three run homerun to end the inning. A solo homer in the third inning tied the game at 2-2 in the third. UL took the lead in the fourth inning on a two-run triple and added another run in the fifth inning to push the lead to 5-2.
In the bottom of the fifth, Kathryn Spack and Melissa Martinez were on second and third respectively, when it was Alexa Ballard's turn to come up with a big two-out hit. Her bloop single to center drove in Spack and Martinez and cut the deficit to 5-4. Three more UL runs in the sixth inning sealed the win.
