BOCA RATON, Fla.  - (April 20, 2016) - The 22nd ranked Florida Atlantic University softball team swept a doubleheader from Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday night. The Owls (38-7) won game one 4-2 and game two 9-1 in six innings.

Game 1 Notables
•    Kylee Hanson scattered eight hits for her 20th win of the season. She is the first FAU pitcher to win 20 games in a season since 2011 (Rose Gressley).
•    FAU's seven hits came from seven different players.
•    Melissa Martinez, Mickey Bell and Alex Miller all had RBI for FAU.

Key Plays



Bell singled in the second inning to drive in Emily Lochten and put the Owls up 1-0. Melissa Martinez scored on an Alex Miller fielder's choice later in the inning to put FAU ahead 2-0. Miller got caught in a rundown that allowed Kiley Southall to score the final run of the frame. Melissa Martinez drove in Carnesha Thompson with an RBI double in the third to account for all of FAU's offense. Trailing 4-1 in the sixth, the Eagles (23-23) had the bases loaded with just one out, but managed only one run.

Game 2 Notables
•    Amanda Wilson improved to 11-4 in the circle, throwing a complete game three-hitter.  
•    Carnesha Thompson had two hits, scored twice and drove in two runs.
•    Mickey Bell had two hits and two RBI.  
•    Tatum Buckley went 1-for-2 with a run scored and two RBI.
•    Sarah Bencivenga had two RBI in the game.

Key Plays

FAU struck for four runs in the first inning, two coming on Thompson's base hit. Mickey Bell doubled to right center, accounting for the other two runs in the inning. The Owls scored four more in the second inning. Melissa Martinez and Bencivenga each had RBI, while Tatum Buckley drove two more with a single to center. Carolyn Rosa led off the bottom of the sixth with a single and advanced to second on a FGCU error. After a Lauren Whitt single and Ashlyn Katz walk loaded the bases, Bencivenga hit a grounder to short and Rosa beat the throw home to end the game.
