CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Florida Atlantic softball team was unable to complete a series sweep of Charlotte, losing to the 49ers 2-1 on Sunday.
The game was scoreless until the top of the sixth, when Christina Martinez led off the inning with a single to left, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by her sister Melissa and scored on Shelby Knox's base hit up the middle.
Samantha Messer held the Niners hitless through six innings, before giving up a double to left center to lead off the seventh. The next batter, Charlotte center fielder Jessica Plemmons hit a ball over the fence in center field to end the game.
The Owls fall to 27-21 on the year and 9-9 in Conference USA play. Charlotte improved to 16-20, 7-10 on the season. FAU returns home to host UTEP for a three game series beginning with a doubleheader starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 18. Friday will also be Senior Night and FAU's four seniors will be honored before the first game.
