BOCA RATON, FL - Heather Barnes and Cari Curfman provided the offensive firepower late in the game as the Florida Atlantic softball team defeated South Alabama 6-3 on Wednesday night.

South Alabama (27-12, 7-7 Sun Belt) took the lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single by Carolina Mendoza. In the third inning, Brittany Walker drove in Kerri Croney and Hailey Broyles on a double to left field to take a 2-1 lead. Ashlyn Parmerter added to the lead with a RBI single that scored Carly Speerin and put the Owls ahead 3-1.

The Jaguars tied the score at 3 in the fifth inning on two solo homeruns. The teams headed to extra innings still tied at 3. Barnes broke the tie with her first career homerun, a solo shot to left center that gave FAU a 4-3 lead. Curfman came to the plate with runners on second and third and smacked a two-run single up the middle that gave the Owls a three-run lead.

Gressley pitched a scoreless eighth to secure the win. The Owls (26-18, 10-3) won their fifth game in a row. FAU and South Alabama will meet in a doubleheader on Thursday, starting at 5 p.m. eastern. Live stats of both games will be available at www.fausports.com.
