BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic (26-19, 8-3 Sun Belt) softball team split Saturday's doubleheader against Troy.
Troy got out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Jessica Lyle and a Rocky Paige base hit. The Trojans added a run in both the fifth and sixth innings to push the lead to 4-0.
Kerri Croney and Amy Bukovich led off the bottom of the seventh inning with base hits. However, Blair Bodenmiller, Melissa Moore and Amber Barton were retired to end the game. The loss ended FAU's 10 game winning streak in home conference games. ULM was the last team to beat the Owls in a Sun Belt game, winning 6-2 on April 21, 2007.
In the second game, FAU scored in the bottom of the first when Caitlyn Bliss scored on a fielding error to give the Owls a 1-0 lead. The Trojans answered with two runs in the top of the second inning, the go ahead run coming on a sacrifice fly to center when Rocky Paige appeared to leave third base early on a diving catch by Christine Houghtaling. The Owls tied the game in the bottom half of the inning when another fielding error by Troy allowed Houghtaling to score on a single by Amy Bukovich.
The Owls seized control of the game in bottom of the fifth inning when they used four hits to drive in three runs for a 5-2 lead. The final run of the game came on a infield single by Amber Barton that drove in Bukovich.
