AUBURN, AL (April 4, 2007) - The Florida Atlantic University softball team felt heartbreak for the third time in two days as an opponent rallied late to steal a victory as Auburn scored three in the sixth and one in the seventh to take a 4-3 win on Tuesday in Auburn, AL.

The Owls got on the scoreboard early with an RBI single off the wall by Mandie Fishback that scored Jenna Lopez from first. Blair Bodenmiller followed with a single up the middle and Becky Brandies drove home Fishback from second with an RBI single to left field.

Amy Bukovich reached on an error to load the bases and a walk to Melissa Moore forced home the third run of the inning for FAU. The Owls would strand the bases loaded in the first but had jumped out to an early 3-0 lead.

FAU's offense was held in check through the fifth by reliever Anna Thopson, who struck out six in 3.1 innings of work without allowing a hit.

Brittany Day would relieve her in the fifth and thanks to an error and a single off the bat of Bodenmiller, the Owls had runners on first and second with one out in the fifth. Day would recover to strike out the next two Owl batters to extinguish the threat.

Starting pitcher Jen Musillo hit the Tiger leadoff batter Ashley Arcuri but retired the next three batters including her first strikeout of the ball game to end the frame. She would strike out two batters in the second and third innings, one more in the fourth and two in the fifth to extend her consecutive batters retired to 15.

She would retire the leadoff batter in the sixth to make it 16 in a row, but pinch hitter Taryn Gray broke up the no hitter with a single down the line and reached second on an error. After a foul out put two away,

Michelle Finney picked up an infield single in the hole between third and short. Suddenly, the tying run was at the plate, but it wasn't for long as Tatiana Fernandez lifted the first pitch she saw over the right field fence for a three-run home run to tie the ball game at three in the bottom of the sixth.

Michelle Grady would put more pressure on the Owls with a double to left and Holley Currie singled up the middle. Grady tried to score from second but Lopez came up firing in center to Charlotte Baird who blocked the plate nicely and applied the tag to end the inning.

Bodenmiller reached on a fielders choice in the seventh after Fishback had walked to start the inning. She then stole second base and took third on a wild pitch to put a runner on third with one out, but the Owls stranded their ninth runner of the night on the base paths as the next two batters were retired.

Auburn got a leadoff single from Brittney Scott on a line drive just off the glove of Bodenmiller. Scott would advance to second on a deep fly to left. Jorjia Bell would single up the middle, and this time the throw from Lopez was up the line and not in time as the winning run crossed the plate for the final margin.

Musillo (10-9) gave up seven hits and four runs while striking out eight in 6.1 innings.

The Owls (23-17) will travel to Troy to take on a familiar foe in the Trojans for a three-game Sun Belt Conference set on Friday and Saturday, with a doubleheader on Friday.
