RUSTON, La. - The Florida Atlantic softball team split its doubleheader with Louisiana Tech on Saturday, winning the first game 7-2, but falling 3-1 in game two.

In game one, the Martinez twins combined to put FAU (23-16, 6-5 Conference USA) on the board in the top of the first when Melissa doubled in Christina to give the Owls a 1-0 lead. In the top of the second, it was Christina Martinez's turn to drive in a run. Her single to left allowed Carnesha Thompson to score and put FAU up 2-0. Jordan Stovall smacked a double to the gap in left that plated Melissa Martinez and made the score 3-0 in favor of FAU in the top of the third.

The Lady Techsters (12-22, 3-8) answered in the bottom of the third on an RBI single that cut the deficit to 3-1. The score remained the same until the top of the sixth when Thompson cleared the fence in left to reestablish a 4-1 lead for the Owls. Louisiana Tech scored in the bottom of the inning to trim FAU's advantage to 4-2.

In the top of the seventh, Christina Martinez led off the inning with a triple and scored on a Lindsey Shell base hit. Later in the inning, Shelby Knox singled off of the third base bag, driving in Shell and Melissa Martinez to complete the scoring. Amanda Wilson retired the side in order in the bottom of the inning for her seventh win of the season. FAU won a conference series opener for the first time this season.

In the nightcap, Louisiana Tech staked itself to an early lead with Bianca Duran's three-run homerun in the bottom of the first inning. The Owls were unable to gain any traction, going hitless until the sixth inning. FAU's only run of the game came on Melissa Martinez's solo homerun that led off the seventh inning. Laura Mann drew a one-out walk to bring the tying run to the plate, but FAU couldn't complete the rally. Kylee Hanson struck out five, but took the loss.
