NASHVILLE, TN - Florida Atlantic University split a Saturday afternoon doubleheader at Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN. The Owls won the first game, 4-1, before dropping game two, 3-1. FAU, which is receiving votes in the USA Today/NFCA Top-25, is now 34-12 overall and 3-1 in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
Ginny Matthews put FAU on the board in the first game with a sacrifice fly in the top of the second that made it 1-0. Lipscomb (12-24, 2-10 A-Sun) came back to tie the game 1-1 in the bottom of the second.
In the fourth, FAU rallied with two outs and the bases empty. Jennifer Cavanaugh then walked, and Lauren Evans followed with a single. Matthews then looped a single down the left field line to drive in Cavanaugh and make it 2-1.
Cavanaugh added an RBI-single in the fifth to put FAU up 3-1. The Owls closed out the scoring with an unearned run in the sixth.
Candice Freel won her ninth straight game with a complete-game five-hitter. Freel (15-6) allowed one run, struck out six, and walked two.
In game two, Lipscomb scored three runs in the first inning. FAU's lone run came on a home run by Jessica Sachs in the sixth.
Florida Atlantic next faces Florida International March 31 in Miami, FL.
