MURFREESBORO, TN - The Florida Atlantic University softball team completed a series sweep of Middle Tennessee 5-3 on Wednesday.

The Blue Raiders (2-27, 1-6 Sun Belt) scored first on an RBI single by Nina Dever to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. FAU (17-18, 6-3) immediately responded to tie the game in the top of the second on Alison Milam's base hit that drove in Alexa Ballard.

Carnesha Thompson put the Owls ahead with a solo homerun to lead off the third inning. Later in the frame, Shelby Knox drew a bases loaded walk to drive in Melissa Martinez and make the score 3-1 in favor of FAU. Taylor Fawbush drove in Stephanie Call on a grounder for a 4-1 lead.

Samantha Nieves hit a two-run homerun to pull MT within 4-3 and chase starter Paige Pender from the game in bottom of the third. Fawbush came on in relief and allowed only one hit the rest of the way.

Shelby Knox gave the Owls an insurance run in the seventh, when her sacrifice fly allowed Ballard to score for a second time in the game. Fawbush retired the side in order in the bottom of the inning to end the game.

FAU will finish its tournament schedule this weekend at the Parents' Weekend Tournament. The Owls will play their first game at 2:30 p.m. on Friday when they take on Dartmouth. Live stats will be available at
