BOCA RATON, FL - In a match-up between two nationally ranked teams, no. 11 Florida Atlantic University put together two shutouts against no. 23 Minnesota Tuesday in Boca Raton. With the wins, FAU improves to 34-5 on the season while Minnesota fell to 19-7.

In game one, Nikki Myers set the tone with a two-out homer in the first inning, her fourth of the season, to give FAU a 1-0 lead. Michelle Ryan scored an unearned run in the second to give the Lady Owls a 2-0 lead. FAU opened up a 4-0 lead in the fifth on a run-scoring triple by Ninya Ybarra that scored Rhianna Rogers. Heather Wright followed with a single to left that scored Ybarra for FAU's fourth run.

Candice Freel picked up the win in game one to improve to 15-2 on the year. She allowed just six hits and struck out five with no walks in her fifth shutout of the season.

In game two, Pam Mazzarella singled home Myers with one out in the sixth inning to break a scoreless tie and account for the game's only run. Myers (19-3) went the distance, scattering six singles while striking out eight. It was the 10th shutout of the season for Myers.

FAU next hosts the FAU "Parents' Weekend" Invitational beginning Thursday with games against Minnesota and Iowa.
