BOCA RATON, FL - A five run third inning was the difference as the Florida Atlantic softball team lost to Jacksonville 5-3 at the Parents' Weekend Tournament on Friday night.
The Dolphins (16-11) had five hits in a row, including back-to-back homeruns to take a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the third. FAU (10-19) took the lead in the top of the inning when Lindsey Shell and Sarah Howell had back to back hits followed by two JU errors to take a brief 2-0 lead.
The Owls had the bases loaded in top of the fifth, but after Heather Barnes drew a walk that drove in Whitley Herb, FAU hit into a double play that ended the inning. Taylor Fawbush threw 3.2 scoreless innings in relief of Samantha Messer.
FAU will continue action in the Parents' Weekend Tournament on Saturday, when they play Syracuse and Jacksonville at noon and 2 p.m. respectively. Live stats and live audio of both games will be available at www.fausports.com
