Final Stats

MIAMI, FL-- Florida Atlantic University continued play at the FIU Blue and Gold Classic, Saturday, in Miami, FL. Once again, errors plagued the Lady Owls in a 10-2, five-inning, loss to no. 20 Texas A&M. Following that game, FAU fell behind Syracuse, 1-0, before the game was suspended due to lightning and rain.

In the bottom of the first, FAU (13-17) broke down defensively, committing four errors and allowing three unearned runs. However, the Lady Owls battled back in the top of the second to score two runs and pull to within 3-2.

Callie Piper doubled to lead off the second and later scored on an infield error. Lauren Evans drove home Ebony Gray on a fielder's choice to account for FAU's second run.

Texas A&M (19-10) took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the second on a leadoff, opposite field, homer by Jana James. The Aggies added four more in the third as Kristin Gunter had an RBI-single and James added a two-out, two-run double to make it 8-2 heading to the fourth. The Aggies scored once in the fourth and again in the fifth with an unearned run to end the game with the eight-run margin. In all, FAU committed five errors.

Candice Freel (7-5) suffered the loss, allowing eight runs, five earned, in three innings. She struck out one and walked one. Amanda Morin allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits in one and one-third innings before the game ended.

Against Syracuse, FAU fell behind 1-0 in the bottom of the second on a two-out run-scoring single by Katie Kaempfer. With one out in FAU's half of the fourth, the game was stopped due to lightning. Subsequent heavy rain forced the game to be suspended until Sunday morning.

As a result, the game will be finished beginning at 9:00am Sunday morning with Sunday's championship round play being cancelled.
