BOCA RATON, Fla. - Lauren Whitt’s walk-off single capped a three-run bottom of the seventh inning, allowing the Florida Atlantic University softball team to take a 6-5 win over LIU Brooklyn Sunday night. The contest was the final game of the Parents’ Weekend Tournament. The Owls improved to 12-13 on the season with the victory.
Whitt drove in the first run of the game with a RBI single in the bottom of the second that scored Kelsey Morrison. The Blackbirds tied the score in the top of the third on a single, a walk, and a double.
Madisyn Palmer scored on a Samantha Lageyre infield hit to regain the lead for FAU 2-1 in the bottom of the third. LIU scored two runs in the top of the fifth to take a 3-2 edge. In the home half of the frame, Palmer reached on an error by the Blackbird first baseman, stole second, then scored on two wild pitches to level the score at 3-3.
With a runner on base, Victoria Zamora hit a homerun to straight away center field, giving LIU a 5-3 lead in the top of the seventh. With two out and the bases empty, Emily Lochten began the rally with a double to right center. Tatum Buckley drew a walk and both runners moved up on another Blackbird wild pitch.
After Morrison walked to load the bases, Mia Olson’s third hit of the night scored Lochten and Buckley to tie the game. The fifth LIU wild pitch of the game moved the runners up, setting the table for Whitt. Her base hit allowed Morrison to score and giving the Owls the win in thrilling fashion.

- Mia Olson went 3-for-4 at the plate and threw 4.2 innings in the circle.

- Jolie Duffner and Emily Lochten also recorded hits for the Owls.
- Kelsey Morrison drew two walks, scored the game-winning run and threw 2.1 innings to pick up her first win in the circle.
