Orlando, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University softball team split a doubleheader on Wednesday, defeating Yale 10-1, but losing to UCF 2-0.

FAU (18-12) scored three runs in the top of the first against Yale, two of them scoring on Melissa Martinez's double down the line in left. Martinez came around to score on Mickey Bell's RBI single. The Bulldogs (1-5) scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the first on an Owl defensive error. FAU scored two more runs in the third, when Kathryn Spack drove in Bell and Carnesha Thompson with a single to center. Spack singled to plate Thompson once again in the fifth, giving the Owls a 6-1 lead.

A two-out rally produced four runs for the Owls in the top of the seventh, with RBIs by Jordan Stovall and Sarah Howell accounting for two runs, and the other two scoring on Bulldog errors.

Samantha Messer threw a complete game four-hitter for her eighth win of the year. In the nightcap, FAU lost to UCF 2-0. Kylee Hanson retired the first batter of the third inning, but then gave up back-to-back doubles. A groundout and a base hit produced the only runs of the game. Whitley Herb was the only Owl to record a hit in the game.
