BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University split a doubleheader with the University of Missouri-Kansas City Wednesday night in Boca Raton, FL. The no. 13 Lady Owls (28-5) came from behind in the first game to win 3-2 before falling 2-1 in game two.
In game one, the Kangaroos scored twice in the top of the third and took that 2-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth before FAU plated a run when Heather Wright scored on a passed ball. The Lady Owls tied the score in the sixth when Nikki Myers came in as a pinch hitter and brought home Michelle Shirah on a sacrifice fly.
FAU won the game in their last at bat when Wright led of the seventh with a triple. The next batter, Pam Mazzarella, singled Wright home with a long single to deep right center field to win the game for FAU. Candice Freel picked up the victory with a five-hitter.
In game two, UMKC's Kari Thurman had a one-out run-scoring triple in the top of the seventh that scored Jill Dolan with what turned out to be the winning run as the Lady Owls were unable to score in the bottom of the inning. Freel suffered the loss and dropped to 12-2 on the year.
Florida Atlantic next hosts Rhode Island in a doubleheader Thursday at 6:00pm.
