BOCA RATON, FL - Two strong pitching performances sparked an all-around effort for the Florida Atlantic University softball team, which swept day one of the 2006 FAU Worth Classic at FAU Softball Stadium on Friday.

Junior Jen Musillo (Tequesta, Fla.) threw 4 1/3 hitless innings and allowed three hits total in a 4-3 win over Bethune-Cookman in the opener. Freshman Kathryn Stauffer (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) broke a personal six-game losing streak as the Owls shut out Rutgers 9-0 in five innings in the nightcap.

Musillo hit the first batter of the game for the Wildcats but then set down 13 consecutive batters until allowing the first hit of the night with one out in the fifth. She finished the night surrendering three runs on three hits and struck out four.

The Wildcats did not cross home plate on Musillo (5-2) until the sixth. Meanwhile, Florida Atlantic put two runs on the board in both the third and fourth innings.

Four different Owls scored runs, with sophomore Lauren Crandall (DeLand, Fla.) and freshman Vanessa Suarez (Orange Park, Fla.) contributing in the third. Musillo and freshman Amy Bukovich (Boca Raton, Fla.) scored in the fourth.
