BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic softball team was able to regain its offensive touch and swept both of its games at Day One of the Embassy Suites Classic on Friday.
In the first game, FAU beat Bethune-Cookman 9-0 in five innings. The Owls (8-15) scored two runs in each of the first three innings and pounded out a season high 15 hits in the victory. Stephanie Call had three RBI, while Taylor Fawbush went 3-for-3 and scored twice. Joshlyn Martinez hit her first homerun of the season.
Several FAU newcomers had notable moments in the game. Paige Pender threw a complete game five hitter for her team best fourth win of the year, while Lindsey Shell and Lauren Tremblay both recorded their first career hits.
The Owls bested Boston College 6-1 in their second game of the day. FAU scored five runs in the first inning off of BC starter Nicole D'Argento and never gave up the lead. Martinez had trhe nig hit in the inning a two-run base hit that drove in Carly Speerin and Heather Barnes. Fawbush gave up just three hits in a complete game win to advance her record to 3-6 on the season.
FAU will continue action in the Embassy Suites Classic on Saturday when they play Western Kentucky at 6 p.m. in a Sun Belt conference game that will be a makeup game from a game that was rained out earlier this week. The Owls will then play Minnesota at 8 p.m. in the final game of the day.
