PLANT CITY - Florida Atlantic University saw Michigan State University capitalize on three-consecutive Lady Owl errors to force across four unearned runs in the second inning of FAU's 8-1 loss, Saturday afternoon, at the University of South Florida Speedline Invitational.
It was a struggle for FAU defensively as it committed a total of six miscues. MSU would go on to rout the Lady Owls with one run in the third and three more in the sixth.
FAU scored its lone run in the top half of the third inning following a one-out triple to right field by junior leftfielder Ginny Matthews. Matthews would score on an RBI-single to short by sophomore Pam Mazzerella. Mazzerella ended up going 3-for-4 from the plate as FAU actyally outhit MSU, 8-7.
Amanda Morin would pitch the complet-game loss. Morin allowed eight runs, four earned, on seven hits. She walked three and struck out three.
Florida Atlantic will next take on Penn State, Tuesday in a 2:00pm doubleheader at FAU Field.
