BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's softball team improved to 10-13 on the season and a perfect 3-0 in Sun Belt Conference play with a double-header victory, Thursday.
The Owls took control early in game one scoring one in each of the first two frames. ULM evened the game at two in the top of the third. FAU scored twice more to take a 4-2 lead into the top of the seventh.
Starter Taylor Fawbush (4-6) saw the Warhawks score three in the top of the seventh with two outs to go up 5-4. Fawbush retired five by strikeout and pitched out of multiple jams.
FAU returned the favor in the bottom half of the seventh inning. With two outs, FAU loaded the bases with three-consecutive walks putting Fawbush at the plate to help her cause. The senior drew a walk which plated the game-tying run at five. Lauren Tremblay hit a pinch hit single to score the game winning run and give FAU the conference series with one to play.
Freshman second baseman Melissa Martinez was the lone Owl with multiple hits. She was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two walks.
Game two of the night was all FAU with nine hits in five innings of play. Christina Martinez was 2-for-3 and threw out the only potential ULM run at the plate from right field. Carnesha Thompson homered in the third to drive in three of the five runs scored in the frame.
FAU senior Stephanie Call started in the circle for the Owls. Call picked up the complete game five-inning 8-0 shutout victory.
