BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic softball team opened Sun Belt play with a 3-0 win over ULM on Wednesday night.
The game was a pitchers' duel for most of the night, with Stephanie Call and Haylie Wilson trading scoreless innings. FAU (8-13, 1-0 Sun Belt) threatened in the first inning, putting runners on the corners, but a Wilson strikeout ended the inning. Call was perfect through 3.2 before allowing a single to center.
Melissa Martinez led off the bottom of the fifth with a double, then moved to third on a Shelby Knox sacrifice bunt. Jordan Stovall walked and was replaced at first by Sarah Howell. Howell stole second and then both runners came around to score on a Lindsay Shell double to center. Carnesha Thompson drove in Shell with an RBI single to center for the game's final run.
The Owls and Warhawks (8-11, 0-1) will complete the series with a doubleheader on Thursday, beginning at 5 p.m. Live stats of the game will be available at www.fausports.com, as well at the official twitter handle of FAU Athletics @FAUOwlAthletics.
