BATON ROUGE, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University’s softball team (10-8) battle Friday morning for what would nearly equate to three full games and came away with a 10 inning 2-1 victory over Purdue (2-1) and a nine inning 4-3 loss to Illinois State (6-10).
Head Coach Joan on senior Tatum Buckley’s 10 inning win and three RBI performance
“We couldn’t ask really any more of Tatum in the two games,” said Joan Joyce, FAU’s head softball coach. “We got a lot (of players) into the first game and also in the second game. It (tournament) is only going to get tougher from here with McNeese tomorrow and then LSU two games after that.”
Game 1 Highlights
- Lauren Whitt was 2-for-2
- Madisyn Palmer was 2-for-4 with an RBI
- Samantha Lageyre was 3-for-3 in the opener

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Purdue tied the game courtesy of an FAU error. The two teams played a scoreless eighth and ninth. In the top of the 10th a runner was played on second, in a due or die inning. FAU’s first batter, Lauren Whitt was hit, placing runners on first and second. The bases runners then moved to second and third on a sac. Lochten was walked to load the bases setting up the eventual game winning hit by Palmer. Tatum Buckley returned to the mound to pitch a scoreless 10th to earn the victory.
Game 2 Highlights

Lageyre was the first to reach base for the Owls with a one out single. Lochten then drew a walk and the duo executed a double steal. Buckley then singled to score Lagerye and Lochten for the first two runs of the game. ISU plated one run in both of the first two innings to match the score. The score remained knotted until the top of the ninth. Lageryre singled up the middle and stole second and then third.
