BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's softball team battled to take control, but the University of Tulsa scored two in the bottom of the seventh to take the night cap 6-5.
The Owls spotted Tulsa three runs in the bottom of the first behind a two-run triple and a groundout RBI. FAU responded in the top of the third. Sarah Howell walked, followed by a Heather Barnes single. The duo advanced to second and third via a sacrifice bunt. Taylor Fawbush then picked up her two RBIs with a single to right. Stephanie Call then drove in Fawbush to tie the game.
Tulsa scored its fourth run in the bottom half of the fourth and held the lead through the next two innings. Jordan Stovall led off the top of the sixth with a single to right. Alexa Ballard hit a one-out single down the left field line to move Stovall to third. Joshlyn Martinez then belted a hit off the left field fence, as Tulsa was attempting to intentionally walk the pinch hitter, to score two for a 5-4 margin.
FAU then moved to the bottom half of the inning, Tulsa was the home team in the tourney, with a victory within sight. Tulsa's Jill Barrett hit a one-out double to right center and advanced to third on a single by Samantha Cobb. With Barrett safely on third, following a close play at the base and Cobb on second, cleanup hitter Samantha Cobb hit a one-out walk-off double to right center to take the game from FAU at 6-5.
FAU will host the final day of the Strike Out Cancer Tournament on Sunday and will travel to Eller Media Stadium Classic in Las Vegas, NV, beginning Friday.
