BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University defeated the University of Michigan, 1-0, Monday night in a rain-shortened match-up in Boca Raton. The Lady Owls had just one hit in the game, which was called in the bottom of the fifth.
FAU, which is receiving votes in both major national polls, improved to 13-5 on the year. Michigan, which is tied for 7th in the latest USA Today/NFCA Top-25, dropped to 9-3 on the year.
The Lady Owls scored the game's only run in the bottom of the first. Jessica Sachs led off the inning with a bunt-single and advanced to second on a throwing error. She came around to score with one out on a fielding error to make it 1-0.
Michigan's only serious threat of the game came in the third when the Wolverines had runners at first and second with one out. However, Amanda Morin struck out the next batter, which was followed by an inning-ending double-play.
Morin won her fourth straight game and improved to 6-1. She allowed three hits and struck out one.
The second game of the doubleheader was cancelled due to the weather.
Florida Atlantic next takes part in the NFCA Leadoff Classic, Friday through Sunday, in Columbus, GA. The Lady Owls face no. 12 LSU and no. 3 California on Friday.
