BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic softball team lost to Northern Illinois 7-3 on the final day of the Strike Out Cancer Tournament on Sunday.
The Owls (5-9) started quickly, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning when an NIU fielding error allowed Stephanie Call and Melissa Martinez to score. The Huskies cut the lead in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single. FAU added to its lead when Jordan Stovall belted a solo homerun to center in the top of the second.
NIU scored five runs in the bottom of the second, aided by four FAU errors to take a 6-3 lead. The Huskies added another run in the third for a 7-3 advantage. The Owls had runners on base in the third, fourth and fifth innings, but could not capitalize on any of the chances.
FAU will return to action when they host the FAU Classic next weekend. The Owls will face Ball State in their first game of the tournament at 4 p.m. on Friday. Live stats of the game will be available at www.fausports.com.
