BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University was defeated by Long Island, 4-1, Saturday night on day two of the FAU "Worth" Invitational in Boca Raton, FL. The loss drops FAU to 8-9 overall.
FAU took an early 1-0 lead when Callie Piper singled home Jessica Sachs in the top of the first inning. The Blackbirds tied it in the second on an infield single by Crystal Eubanks that scored Sonia Zapata.
The score remained 1-1 until LIU scored two more times in the fourth before adding a fourth run in the fifth inning.
Meanwhile, Eubanks stymied FAU batters, allowing just five hits while retiring the last nine batters she faced.
Amanda Morin (4-5) suffered the loss for the Lady Owls. The freshman allowed four runs on 10 hits.
Florida Atlantic will next face Wisconsin Sunday morning at 9:00am in the fifth-place game. Long Island faces Florida International at 11:00am for third place while top-ranked UCLA takes on Rutgers in the 1:00pm championship game.
