CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University softball team fell to Missouri 7-2 in the Owls’ final game at the Michelle Smith Pediatric Cancer Invitational on Sunday. FAU is now 6-5 on the season.
After the Tigers’ leadoff runner hit a double to start the game, Mizzou played small ball, using a sacrifice bunt and a sac fly to take a 1-0 advantage. The Tigers blew the game open in the top of the second, hitting two homeruns as part of a four-run inning to take a 5-0 lead. The Owls scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth on a Tatum Buckley groundout and Mia Olson base hit. Two more Mizzou homeruns in the top of the seventh accounted for the game’s final runs.
- With her stolen base in the fifth inning, Emily Lochten became the first player in program history to steal 100 career bases.
- Olson went 2-for-2 with an RBI at the plate and drew a walk.
- Madisyn Palmer singled and scored.
- Kaitlyn Burke and Samantha Lageyre also recorded base hits for the Owls.
The Owls return home to host the Strike Out Cancer Tournament. FAU begins action in the tournament at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23 against Texas State. Live stats will be available at fausports.com.
