Final Stats

Florida Atlantic University's softball team fell in their final game of the Strike Out Cancer Tournament 8-1 to the University of South Carolina, Sunday.

South Carolina scored the game's first run in the top of the third and added two more in the next frame. The Owls pulled within two when Whitley Herb, who was 6-of-7 in Saturday's action, continued to swing a hot bat with a single to third. Herb was sacrificed to second and scored on a two-out Melissa Martinezsingle to right.

The third inning run would be the last FAU would plate despite a total of eight Owls recording a hit.

South Carolina capitalized on three uncharacteristic FAU errors to take the game 8-1. FAU had committed just one error in the Owls' first nine games. Samantha Messer(2-1) suffered her first loss after three innings of work. Messer gave up four hits, three runs and retired two by strikeout. She was relived in the top of the fourth by Kylee Hanson who saw USC score five runs, only one earned. Hanson struck out three, walked one and allowed five hits.

The Owls will return to the field next weekend when they play host to a six-team tournament and the third tournament in as many weeks. FAU will face Kentucky at 6 p.m. and Penn State at 8 p.m.., both on Friday. Live stats will be available at fausports.com.
