Amanda Morin threw a one-hit shutout in just her fifth collegiate start.

MIAMI, FL - In just her fifth collegiate start, freshman Amanda Morin threw a one-hitter as Florida Atlantic University defeated Florida International University, 5-0, Saturday at the FIU Invitational in Miami, FL. Pam Mazzarella went 2-for-4 with a homer while Lauren Evans had two hits and two RBIs. The win improves FAU to 3-5 on the year.
Morin took a perfect game into the fifth and a no-hitter into the sixth before allowing a lead-off single. At the plate, FAU had its best performance of the season with 10 hits and a season-high five runs.
FAU took a 1-0 lead in the first on a two-out single by Callie Piper that drove in Jessica Sachs. The Lady Owls scored two more times in the sixth as Jessica Braggins got things started with a lead-off double. One out later, Evans brought Michelle Shirah home with a double to make it 2-0. Evans would later score on a wild pitch make it 3-0.
Meanwhile, Morin was cruising. She retired the first 12 batters she faced before Cyntia Turek reached on an error to lead off the fifth. In the sixth, FIU had its only threat by putting runners and second and third with no outs. However, Morin got out of the jam by retiring the next three batters.
Mazzarella hit her first homer of the year in the top of the seventh to give FAU a 4-0 lead. Later in the frame, Evans had a run-scoring single to account for FAU's final run.
Morin (3-2) walked two and struck out three as she won her second straight decision. Kendra Lamanack (0-3) suffered the loss for FIU. She allowed five runs on nine hits in 6 and one-third innings.
FAU next faces Ohio State Saturday night at 6:30pm. The tournament concludes Sunday with the consolation and championship games.
