Final Stats

TAMPA, FL -- Florida Atlantic University, ranked no. 26 in the nation, was defeated by no. 2 Arizona, 2-0, Friday afternoon in Tampa, FL. It was the season opener for the Lady Owls (0-1), who are taking part in the USF "Louisville Slugger" Invitational.

The Wildcats (2-0) struck first in the top of the third when Lovieanne Jung hit a one-out homer to make it 1-0 Arizona. The only other run scored on a groundout in the fifth inning by Lisha Ribellia.

FAU had two hits for the game as Callie Piper singled in the second while Lauren Evans singled in the seventh.

Alicia Hollowell picked up the victory for Arizona. She faced 22 batters and allowed two hits with 11 strikeouts and no walks.

Pam Mazzarella (0-1) took the loss for FAU. The sophomore, in just her second career appearance, pitched a complete game, allowing 10 hits and giving up just one earned run.

FAU faces Auburn late Friday night. The Lady Owls will take on Sam Houston State and Northwestern on Saturday.
