BOCA RATON, Fla. - Stephanie Call ended the regular season on a high note, helping the Florida Atlantic University softball team take both meetings with rival FIU. Those standout performances during both games over the weekend have earned the senior FAU's student-athlete of the week award.
In Friday's 3-1 win, Call hit a solo homerun and drew a walk. On Saturday, she hit another homerun, an RBI single and threw a complete game one hitter in the Owls' 3-0 win. The pair of wins put FAU past the Panthers for the fifth seed for the Sun Belt tournament. For the weekend, Call went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, two homeruns and three RBI. She narrowly missed throwing her first career no-hitter in the Owls' 3-0 win over FIU on Saturday. In her final home game, she threw a complete game one-hitter with five strikeouts for her ninth win of the season.
For the regular season, Call finished with the second highest batting average (.305) and 30 recorded RBIs, the highest on the team. FAU will head to Troy, AL for the Sun Belt tournament as the fifth seed, where they will face fourth-seeded North Texas in a first round game on Wednesday. Game time is set for 11 a.m. eastern.
