BOCA RATON, Fla. – Asta Arnadottir and Ebba Blomqvist of the Florida Atlantic women’s soccer team each earned recognition recently as members of the 2017 United Soccer Coaches All-South Region Team, as part of the organization’s postseason awards slate.
Blomqvist, a junior defender, and Arnadottir, who just completed her fourth year with the program in the midfield, were voted Second Team and Third Team, respectively, by the organization, formerly known as NSCAA. The duo played in every single match for the 11-8-2 Owls this year, scoring eight goals in over 3,300 combined minutes on the pitch.
For Arnadottir, this is her first region award after four All-Conference nods, one in each season as an Owl. She departs the program as the all-time leader in history in games played and games started.
“Receiving this All-Region award is a great honor, especially in my last season with FAU,” she said. “The main reason for my personal success this season is because of Coach Baker, his staff and my teammates. Every day, the coaches made me want to do more for the team and I am very excited to see them take this program to new heights next year. I want to congratulate Ebba as well, she was amazing in her first season with us and will be a massive factor for the team next year.”
“Asta has enjoyed a tremendous four-year career at Florida Atlantic and has been viewed as one of our top players for some time,” said Head Coach Patrick Baker. “She departs as a four-year C-USA All-Conference player and captained our team to another double-digit win season this year. We are very proud of her consistency of excellence. She played her best soccer as a central midfielder this fall and will be hard to replace upon graduation. Asta has the ability to make others around her better and is a real positive influence on our team. She can change the complexion of a game with one run and showed that many times throughout the fall. Asta has been a great reflection of what our program represents on and off the field throughout her entire career.”
Blomqvist transferred to FAU after a two-year stint at Keiser in which she was NSCAA First Team All-Region both years. She did not lose a step with the Owls, leading the team in goals and in minutes played among field players, and nabbing her third All-Region honor.
“I feel honored to receive this recognition from United Soccer Coaches and want to thank all my teammates, coaching staff, and dedicated people around our program,” she said. “Overall, it was a good season for FAU women’s soccer, and I️ know next year will be even better. With team success, it is always a pleasant bonus to get individual awards. Once again, a big thank you to my teammates, and congratulations to Asta for finishing out her senior year with such recognition as well.”
"Ebba has enjoyed a fantastic first year with us after transferring in to FAU in the late summer,” added Baker. “She has been a wonderful addition on and off the field to our program. We utilized her predominantly as a centerback for the first half of the season, and down the stretch, she was one of the best midfielders in Conference USA. Ebba scored a number of goals this year and plays the game at such a very high level. She is strong in the air and has been a threat on attacking set pieces. We are thankful she is a part of our FAU family and look forward to another great season with her in 2018.”
