Boca Raton, FL - Florida Atlantic University freshman women's soccer forward Claire Emslie has earned second-team All-Sun Belt Conference (SBC) honors after being the Owls' leading scorer during the regular season. The honor, selected by other league coaches, was announced by the conference on Tuesday, October 30, on the eve of starting play in the championship tournament.
Emslie ranked second in the league with 10 goals and was among the top five players in six offensive categories during her debut season. Those 10 goals rank seventh most in a season by a FAU player in program history.
"Claire has the unique quality to be dangerous every time she touches the ball," said Brian Dooley, FAU's head women's soccer coach. "As a freshman and the second leading goal scorer in the conference, she will only become more lethal."
Six of the goals for the Scotland native came in SBC matches, and three were game-winning efforts. Emslie earned league Offensive Player of the Week honors after scoring a hat trick against UAB on Sunday, September 16. She later scored two goals against Middle Tennessee State University on Sunday, September 30, and had the lone goal, in the 87th minute, of the Owls' 1-0 victory over University of Louisiana-Monroe on Friday, October 12 at the FAU Soccer Stadium.
FAU plays the University of North Texas in the conference tournament's first round on Wednesday, October 31, starting at 11 a.m., in Mobile, Alabama. The team qualified for postseason play following a 5-12 regular-season record.
