Oct. 26, 2017

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team hopes to cement a spot in the upcoming Conference USA Championship, with the team controlling their own destiny ahead of just one more regular season matchup to go, Friday night at 7 p.m., at FIU in Miami.

Owls' Week in Review

The Owls (9-7-2, 4-4-1 C-USA) wrapped the regular season home slate with a 1-0 victory over UTEP on Sunday. That gives the team 13 points in the conference ledger and now has them in a tie for seventh place with Charlotte, with eight of the league's 14 teams making the postseason tournament. FAU is currently three points ahead of both WKU and Marshall, who play each other Friday. WKU has another match in addition to that, Sunday at UAB.

Here is a current look at the top 10 teams in the C-USA standings, with league record and points heading into the weekend:

 Owls' Week in Preview

FAU will take on FIU for the 32nd time on Friday night, with yet again another key three points on the line. The Panthers (1-12-0, 0-8-0 C-USA) have lost eight in a row, having been outscored 21-4 in league play and 26-5 overall. The team's lone win of the year came prior to the league schedule, on Sept. 3 at Jacksonville.

Opponent History

Though the Panthers lead the all-time series 22-7-2, the Owls are 2-1-1 under Head Coach Patrick Baker, including wins each of the last two years. Last season in Boca Raton, the Owls prevailed 1-0, and the last time the squads met up in Miami, it was a 2-0 FAU victory in 2015.

After This

The eight top squads in Conference USA will qualify for the postseason championship, hosted at FAU Soccer Stadium. The quarterfinal round will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 1, with matches at 11 a.m., 1:30, 4:30 and 7 p.m. Seeds and matchups will be set following the conclusion of the regular season this upcoming Sunday.
