Women's Soccer Closes Out Season at FIU on Friday

Boca Raton, FL - The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team will close out the 2011 season with a Sun Belt Conference match up against South Florida-rival FIU on Friday, October 28, at 7 p.m. in at FIU's campus in Miami.

The Owls have been eliminated from the conference tournament after having a 2-7-1 league mark. The team snapped a four-match losing streak with a 2-1 victory over the University of Louisiana-Monroe on October 23.

FIU enters the weekend on a four-match unbeaten streak after a 1-1 draw against Louisiana-Lafayette on October 23. The Golden Panthers are currently the No. 3 seed for the SBC Championships with a 7-1-2 league record. The team has earned 1-0 victories over the league's top two teams, the University of Denver (8-1) and University of North Texas (7-1). Kim Lopez and Ashleigh Shim lead the team with four goals, while four other players have each chipped with three goals.

For FAU, sophomore forward Jesse Shugg leads the team with seven goals, 15 points and 50 shots. The Burlington, Ontario, Canada native scored during a 4-2 loss to the University of Louisiana-Lafayette on October 20. Sophomore forward Brittney Nash has scored four goals this season, and freshman defender Megan Borger has scored goals in the past two matches, including the game winner against Louisiana-Monroe. Senior midfielder Meghan Brown has added four assists, while sophomore midfielder Marisa Russo has scored one goal and provided an assist this fall.
