Women's Soccer Travels North for Two
Oct. 11, 2017

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team has six key points on the line in two road contests this weekend, at WKU Friday and Marshall on Sunday.

Owls' Week in Review

The Owls (7-6-2, 2-3-1 Conference USA) earned three points last Thursday night with a 4-1 victory hosting Southern Miss, and looked to be on their way to more Sunday afternoon before Charlotte struck back in the second half to turn a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 win. The loss has FAU tied for eighth in the C-USA standings; only eight of the league's 14 teams qualify for the postseason.

Owls' Week in Preview

The Owls have seven points currently, and the first of their two opponents sits below them, as WKU (3-8-1, 0-4-1) is searching for conference win No. 1. The matchup against the Lady Toppers in Bowling Green is set for Friday at 7 p.m. EST. WKU is on a seven-match winless streak, outscored 7-0 in that stretch, including a 1-0 loss last Friday night to Middle Tennessee. Chandler Backes has exactly half of the team's goals on the year, four of eight.

The Sunday matchup sees the Owls head to Huntington, West Virginia, taking on the team tied with them currently in the standings in Marshall (4-8-1, 2-3-1 C-USA). The Thundering Herd surged up the ledger last Sunday in a 2-1 overtime win over Middle Tennessee. Jordan Sackaris had both goals, with the winner coming 2:35 into the first extra frame. She has a team-high five on the season.

Opponent History

WKU has a slim 5-3-2 edge in the all-time series over the Owls, a series that spans both C-USA and, previously, the Sun Belt. In C-USA, it's a 1-0-1 FAU advantage, including a 1-0 win last year in Boca Raton on Elisha Holmes' goal just 4:29 into the match.

The Owls have won all three matches played against Marshall, with victories of 2-1, 1-0 (in overtime), and last season, 2-1 again in Boca Raton. Pernille Velta had both of the goals in that latter match, the first two of her collegiate career.

After This

FAU will wrap up their regular season home slate a week from Sunday, on Oct. 22. In what will be the team's 2017 Senior Day, the Owls host UTEP for a 12:30 p.m. start at FAU Soccer Stadium.
