BOCA RATON, Fla. - For the first time in 27 days, the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team will host a home match, taking on Conference USA opponent Old Dominion this Friday at FAU Soccer Stadium, beginning at 7 p.m.
Owls' Week(s) in Review
Beginning Wednesday, Sept. 6, through this past Monday, Sept. 17, the Owls were literal road (and air) warriors, staying away from home to play four matches in four different states. They came back with a 2-1-1 mark on the long trip to run their current record to 5-4-1. The squad has not played at home in six matches and since Aug. 27, and now will look for their first C-USA win of the year against the Monarchs. Ebba Blomqvist paces the scoring with four goals, while Miracle Porter had two in the team's Sunday win, including the game-winner with 14 seconds remaining, for three total on the year. Jennifer Ocampo is third in the conference with 48 saves.
Owls' Week in Preview
ODU (4-2-2, 1-0-0) took their first conference match, defeating WKU last Friday, 1-0 in two overtimes. That marked the third straight match in which the Monarchs and their opponent went to extra time, and on Sunday, they extended that streak to four, topping Richmond (2-1, also in two OT). Jackie Stroud leads the team with four goals, while Kyra Ricks has added three. Krista Moisio has started all eight matches in goal and has three shutouts to tie Ocampo for second in the conference.
The Owls and Monarchs have met each of the last four years, and ODU holds a 3-0-1 advantage. The first match between the two, in 2013, was a scoreless two-OT affair. Since, ODU won back-to-back 2-1 decisions, and last year in Norfolk, Virginia, they defeated the Owls, 1-0.
It'll be two more home matches for FAU next weekend, and two more opportunities to earn points in the conference standings. First up is Middle Tennessee next Friday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m., and wrapping the weekend is UAB, at 1 p.m. the following Sunday.
