Freshman forwards Alexandra Major had an assist in last Friday's season opener at Stetson

Boca Raton, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team will continue its opening road trip by facing one of the nation's top teams, No. 9-ranked University of Florida, on Friday, August 27 beginning at 6 p.m. in Gainesville. This Florida rivalry has featured hard-fought matches, with the Gators earning a 2-1 overtime victory in 2008 following a scoreless draw in 2007.

The Owls opened the season on August 20 with a 4-3 loss at Stetson University. The team battled back from a 3-0 deficit to tie the match before allowing the deciding goal with four minutes remaining.

FAU received scoring production from three freshmen making their collegiate debuts. Forward Marisa Russo paced the offense with a goal, on a team-high five shots, and an assist. Forward Brittney Nash found the back of the net early in the second half and tallied four shots in the match. Meanwhile, defender Allyson Buerosse capped the scoring in the Owls' season opener.

Friday's match up with FAU will be the Gators third straight encounter with a Florida rival, following a 2-1 victory over the University of Miami in double overtime on August 20, and a 2-0 victory against the University of Central Florida on August 22. Florida is led by Tahani Annis, who scored both goals against UCF, and McKenzie Barney, who has added two assists.


 

 

The Owls will open their home schedule against Robert Morris University on Friday, September 3 beginning at 7 p.m. at the FAU Soccer Stadium, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus.
