Boca Raton, FL -Florida Atlantic University’s 2012-13 athletic calendar kicks off when the women’s soccer team battles Jacksonville University on Friday, August 17, at 7 p.m. in the FAU Soccer Stadium, 777 Glades Road, on the Boca Raton campus.
The Owls are coming off a scoreless draw in their lone preseason exhibition match, against Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) on Saturday, August 11. The team outshot FGCU by an 8-4 margin and had many scoring opportunities.
“Our freshmen really performed well against a quality opponent. We defended well and tested their goalkeeper on several occasions,” said Brian Dooley, FAU’s head women’s soccer coach. “I was pleased with the high-energy level the team demonstrated.”
FAU had a 6-3-1 home record last season.
Junior forward Brittney Nash is the team’s top returning offensive player, scoring four goals and ranking among the Sun Belt Conference’s leaders with five assists. The team is also solid at goalkeeper, where senior Ashley Lantes has been a two-year starter and ranks second in program history with 246 career saves.
