Katie Englert was a member of the C-USA All-Freshman squad in 2013
BOCA RATON, Fla. (August 7, 2014) - Three Florida Atlantic University women's soccer players have been named to the 2014 Preseason All-Conference USA Teams by College Sports Madness.
Senior Olivia MBala was selected to be the C-USA Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and also was named a first team defender. Claire Emslie, FAU's leading active scorer, and Katie Englert, a member of the 2013 All-Freshman Team, received honors as well.
MBala, a native of Ontario, Canada, has racked up nearly 3,000 minutes on the pitch in her two seasons at FAU. As a senior, MBala will be key to Baker's back line, a defensive unit which allowed only seven goals in C-USA play in 2013. For her efforts, MBala was named All-Conference First Team following her junior campaign.
Emslie was chosen as a First Team midfielder as a terrific scoring threat. She has tallied 17 goals and 37 points in her 35 outings as an Owl. The Scotland native was named to the C-USA All-Conference Second Team following FAU's debut season in the league a year ago.
Englert, a Clearwater native, started 13 of the 17 matches in which she played in 2013 and took seven shots on the year, placing two of those on goal. Her 876 minutes was the second-most among freshmen on the FAU squad.
The Owls open their season on the road at USF on Friday, Aug. 22 before hosting Stetson on Sunday, Aug. 24 at 1 p.m. at the FAU Soccer Stadium, Boca Raton campus.
