Women's Soccer Has Another Alum Sign Pro Contract in Arnadottir
Feb. 19, 2018

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Asta Arnadottir, formerly of the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team, became the third recent alumnus, and first from this past year's departing class, to sign a professional contract. She is joining the Breiðablik women's football team, based in her hometown of Kópavogur, Iceland.

The four-year midfielder wrapped her FAU career as the program's all-time leader in matches played and started, and was a four-time Conference USA honoree. She also was chosen, following this past season, to the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region Third Team. She will be part of a squad that participates in the Úrvalsdeild kvenna, the top-tier league in Iceland, and a team that finished as league runners-up in 2017.

"I am very happy to have signed with the club I grew up with, and to keep on training at a high level," said Arnadottir. "I'm very excited for this season and to play in the Pepsi League again."

Breiðablik has a long and storied history, with the team being founded in 1950. All told, they are 16-time winners of the Icelandic championship, last coming in 2015, and 11-time champions of the Icelandic Women's Cup, known as Bikarkeppni KSÍ, including in 2016.

Beyond her individual accolades spanning over 80 matches with 42 wins, Arnadottir relishes the "little things" as part of her tenure with the program.

"I will always be thankful for FAU and the coaching staff," she said. "They helped me grow as a player and pushed me to become better every day. My four years of college flew by and I'm proud of how we progressed each year of my career. All the `little' things I have done with Coach (Patrick) Baker and Coach (Michael) Crane have helped me get to the place I am today. I am very excited to follow the team next season, I know they will do great things."

Breiðablik's next match is scheduled for this Wednesday, Feb. 21, against Grindavik, at 2:10 p.m. GMT in Kópavogur (9:10 a.m. local EST time), and fans can follow along with Arnadottir on her personal profile page at The team's official site can be found at
