BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Florida Atlantic University women's soccer coach Patrick Baker has been signed to a five-year contract extension through the 2021 season.
"My family and I are very excited about the opportunity to continue the growth of the women's soccer program here at Florida Atlantic University," Baker said. "I would like to thank Athletic Director Pat Chun, President John Kelly and Executive Associate Athletic Director Melissa Dawson for giving me the opportunity to lead these remarkable young ladies for the next few years. We have come such a long way over the past three years and are looking forward to winning our first Conference USA Championship, plus a return to the NCAA Tournament in the near future."
The extension took place just before Baker signed 12 players on Feb. 3, National Signing Day. Over Baker's three seasons at the helm, FAU improved from 5-10-2 in 2013 to 12-8-1 with a No. 3 seed in the Conference USA Tournament in 2015. He was named the C-USA Co-Coach of the Year last season after his team went 6-3-1 in league play with a fierce defense that allowed just 0.81 goals per match. Five members of the 2015 team were named All-Conference while Claire Emslie and Erica Burt earned NSCAA All-Region honors.
In total, Baker has produced 12 All-Conference selections and four All-Academic nods in the past three seasons.
"Coach Baker has quickly raised the standard of excellence for the women's soccer program," said Chun. "The culture of the program is built on leadership and focused on building champions for life. We are fortunate to have him lead our program and look forward to the 2016 season."
"In 2013, we won just five games and, just two years later, we have 5 players receiving All-Conference recognition - fantastic progress," Baker said. "My staff - Coach [Michael] Crane and Coach [Jordan] Reppell deserve tremendous recognition as well and it's a pleasure to work with them every day. I'm grateful for each morning I come to this beautiful campus in Boca Raton to spend time with my High Performance team and those in the FAU Athletic Department Family. Go Owls!"
